Motivating and engaging students in the classroom has become increasingly essential in today’s educational landscape. A key factor in fostering this engagement is cultivating positive attitudes, including high levels of self-efficacy and a proactive, “can-do” mindset toward language learning. With examples from National Geographic Learning’s Look series, this session will explore the critical role self-efficacy plays in the language classroom, examining the factors that influence it—both positively and negatively. We will also share practical strategies and techniques that teachers can implement to enhance their learners’ confidence and belief in their abilities, ultimately creating a more empowered and motivated classroom environment.

Historically education has put a focus on summative assessment – testing what students know at the end of a period of learning. However, there is now much more of a push towards formative assessment, especially in the young learner classroom. But what exactly is formative assessment? What does it look like in an ELT context and how can we implement into our classrooms on a daily basis?

Using examples from National Geographic Learning’s Our World series, in this session we’ll look to answer all of these questions with plenty of practical ideas along the way.
